Holiday Accidents - What to look out for

Accidents happen, even while you are on holiday. And fishing at night may pose rather unexpected and unwanted risks.

Things to look out for
in the first place are: stingray, jellyfish, broken glass, horseshoe crabs, rocks and spiky roots and branches underwater. I'll go through each one f those in detail a little later on. But first things first, no matter how much you have fished, since it is not your home turf, both in the water and on the beach, you are out of your element.

Singapore is a "fine" country, and it is also famous for its stringent healthcare policies. Locals do make contributions to an NHS-like account, but if it does not cover the hospital - healthcare expenses, they have to pay it out of their own pocket. So before you leave, make sure, you are properly insured for the entire duration of your holiday. Make sure that you buy a good insurance policy that povides comprehensive cover. If you suffer an accident, the last thing you want to do is haggle with the insurance company over settling accident claims.

Don't step on the horseshoe crab while fishing

Singapore beaches are a mixture of sand, rock and mangrove. Sand it fine, except for the fact that the sea brings in lots of rubbish, including glass bottles and wood debris with nails and splinters. So it is vital that you protect your feet and legs against these as much as possible.

Well, I have done a few daft things myself. Fished from the foot of a bridge, got stuck in the swamps, camped on the dry riverbed on a rainy day, got chased by wasps, got stung by jellyfish, bitten by pike, hooked on a fly... to name just a few.
